September 30, 2005……The Protected Areas Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (PAA) announces the line-up for their 16th Annual Benefit Concert. This year the event will be held on Thursday, October 13th, at 7:30pm at the LSPU Hall. A silent auction will also be held, beginning at 7:00pm. The PAA is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to the establishment of a network of protected natural areas in our province. This year, the concert will focus on the beautiful natural areas of Newfoundland & Labrador. As this is the only annual fundraiser held, the PAA hopes to get many of their supporters out for the event. It is also an opportunity for new people to come out and see what the PAA is all about. "We've been doing the concert for 15 years now to raise funds and promote awareness of the need to protect a portion of each of the province's ecoregions," says Laura Jackson, Executive Director of the PAA. "Again this year, our good friends in the entertainment field have volunteered their time to help us out. Our lineup includes Delf Maria Hohmann, Christopher Newhook, Terry Rielly, The Celtic Fiddlers, Gordon Quinton, and Charlotte-Anne Malischewski." A reception for the audience and performers sponsored by the City of St. John's will follow the concert. Tickets are $12 for General Admission and $7 for Students/Seniors and can be purchased through the PAA office at The Gathering Place, 172 Military Road, Fred's Records - Duckworth Street, the LSPU Hall - Victoria Street and Wild Things - 124 Water Street. It is horrifying that we have to fight our own government to save the environment.
